I thought she was crazy at the time but now I get it. My great auntie Grace dug it up and took it with her to plant in her garden. My Grandmother called it a “cabbage” rose and she had been tending this rose for almost fifty years before she died. It was a “Centifolia” rose with a long history. It was my grandmother's garden and it was the most beautiful pink. I fell in love with a old garden rose when I was eight years old and in a fragrant rose garden. ‘I have seen roses damask'd, red and white,īut no such roses see I in her cheeks…’ Shakespeare Sonnet -130
